Where is KAROO RANCHING located?
KAROO RANCHING is based near the town of Graaff–Reinet in the Eastern Cape province, South Africa.
When you book, you’ll be given a location pin directly.
What is the easiest way to get there?
The drive from both Johannesburg or Cape Town is around 8 hours.
It is a long, but relatively easy drive.
The closest commercial airport is in Port Elizabeth.
The ranch is another 4 ½ hour drive from there.
A transfer service is available at an extra charge.
The little Graaff-Reinet airport is able to take small charter planes.
We do not arrange these, however, you would be welcome to ask us to pick you up should you arrive in your own plane.
Is the ranch open all year?
No, the ranch is only open to the public during the ranching season which is in winter & spring (April – October) every year.
This is when our cattle drives, ranch rides & equine therapy events take place.
During the intense heat of the summer months (November – March), our horses are sent to roam in the mountains.
There is no horse riding offered on the ranch during this time.
Do you offer day trips/ rides on the ranch?
Unfortunately, not.
The ranch is only open to the public during our scheduled ranch events during the ranching season (April – October).
My partner does not ride horse, can he/ she come too?
Yes, non-riding partners are welcome to join in.
NON -SOUTH AFRICAN CITIZENS
The non-riding rate is $900 USD per person sharing a room (3 nights/ 4 days all inclusive).
SOUTH AFRICAN CITIZENS
The non-riding rate is R15 500 ZAR per person sharing a room (3 nights/ 4 days all inclusive).
Kindly note that the dress code applies to partners too.
What is the age limit?
Our events are geared to hosting groups of adults.
The minimum age to attend a KAROO RANCHING event is thus, 21 years.
IS THERE A DRESS CODE?
Yes, for stock handling & photographic purposes a strict dress code is adhered to.
There is a small shop on the ranch that stocks various items.
It is however, advised that you bring your gear that is well worn in.

PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY
During our events a professional photographer is tasked with photographing the event.
This imagery is then given to guests as a gift, as a fond reminder of their time spent at KAROO RANCHING.
Guests are invited to embrace the experience, the dress code suggested and be fully present without needing to snap away on their cell phones.
For this reason, we kindly request that no cell phones are used outside of the ranch accommodation.
Wi-Fi access is only available in the ranch accommodation too.
RANCH FOOD
Food is a big deal for us.
Especially homegrown and locally sourced produce.
All our meat and vegetables are grown on the farm and all meals, desserts, breads, snacks, jams and sauces are homemade, with love.
The recipes that we use, have been passed down from our great grandmothers, grandmothers, mothers and aunts, who were the true pioneers of traditional Karoo cuisine.
We proudly uphold these values of wholesomeness and generous Karoo hospitality.
SPECIAL FOOD NEEDS
Our number one objective is for guests to feel welcome, well catered for and happy when visiting us at KAROO RANCHING.
We acknowledge that due to health reasons or personal choice, some guests will require special foods to be made.
We are most willing to accommodate guests in this regard, however, depending on the guest’s dietary requirements an additional fee will be charged for a special needs diet, as often it requires special ingredients to be bought and extra time invested in making completely separate meals for an individual guest.
Kindly speak to us when making your booking, should you have any special food needs.

Alcoholic drinks are not included in the rate, however, there is an honesty bar which stocks the below drinks:
